Pest Dominion Bed Bug Treatment, Eradication, and Removal Service
Bed bugs are among the most stubborn and invasive pests, known for their ability to reproduce rapidly and hide in cracks, crevices, furniture, and bedding. At Pest Dominion, we offer a comprehensive two-part chemical treatment service, specifically designed to eliminate bed bugs effectively. Our method ensures complete eradication, provided the household follows our strict pre-treatment and post-treatment instructions.
Our two-part treatment guarantees results when preparation is thorough, as both parties must collaborate to achieve success. For quality assurance, we assess customer preparation on a scale of 1 to 10. Should the two-part treatment fail, we offer a third treatment at no additional cost only to customers who achieve a preparation score of 6 or higher. This system ensures that both Pest Dominion and the client take the necessary steps for success.
The Bed Bug Treatment Process
Inspection and Assessment
Our process begins with a meticulous inspection to determine the severity of the infestation. We identify all potential hiding spots, including:
- Mattresses, bedding seams, couches, chairs, cushions, tufts, seams, buttons & folds of mattresses
- Furniture joints, drawers, and behind headboards, bed frames, and covers
- Cracks and crevices in walls, skirting boards, and wooden flooring, behind loose wallpaper, picture frames, and under carpets.
- Curtains, upholstery, and personal belongings like luggage.
- Outlets & switch plates.
- Luggage, boxes, and other portable items.
Two-Part Chemical Treatment
Our professional-grade insecticides target bed bugs at all stages of their life cycle, including eggs, nymphs, and adults. The two-part treatment is spaced over a period of 2–4 weeks, ensuring complete eradication. We use:
- Active ingredients: Cypermethrin, Tetramethrin, Piperonyl Butoxide, Pyriproxyfen, and Permethrin.
- Two types of powders: one insecticidal and one non-toxic, which dehydrates bed bugs by scratching their exoskeleton.
All our treatments comply with UK health and safety regulations, are biodegradable, non-corrosive, low odour, and safe when instructions are followed.
Pre-Treatment Instructions
Declutter and Clean
- Dispose of discarded items responsibly to prevent spreading the infestation.
- Remove clutter from all rooms, including toys, books, and boxes. Do not move items into untreated areas to avoid spreading the infestation.
- Vacuum all carpets, mattresses, and furniture thoroughly using a HEPA-filter vacuum. Dispose of vacuum bags in sealed plastic bags immediately after use.
- Do not introduce new furniture to treated areas until the infestation is fully eradicated.
- DIY insecticides are discouraged as they can lead to chemical resistance, complicating professional treatments.
- All bedding must be stripped from beds, placed in airtight sealed bags, and transported to the washing machine. Wash in **hot water (>49ºC)** and dry on the **highest heat setting (>60ºC)**. (Please read clothing labels for washing and tumble drying instructions, no liabilities accepted).
- Thoroughly vacuum all carpets, curtains, and mattresses with a vacuum cleaner fitted with a HEPA filter.
- Clear all clutter including toys, books, shoes, and boxes, but do not move them into untreated rooms to avoid spreading the infestation.
- Move furniture away from walls to provide access to baseboards and behind furniture.
- Empty drawers and wardrobes, and launder or dry-clean clothes before returning them to treated rooms.
- Items that cannot be laundered should be placed in a freezer overnight before being returned to the room.
- If any mattresses or other furniture are in poor or ripped condition and infested, they should be discarded.
- Remove all personal items including electronics, mobiles, tablets, laptops, food etc.
- Keep the heating on the day of treatment when weather is cold.
Furniture and Bedding
- Move furniture, including beds, 30 cm (12 inches) away from the walls to provide access to baseboards and other hiding spots.
- Remove all bedding and hot-wash at 60°C before tumble drying on the highest heat setting. Carefully follow washing instructions to avoid damage.
Wardrobes and Drawers
- Empty all wardrobes, cupboards, and drawers.
- Wash clothes at 60C, launder or dry-clean clothes (see washing instructions on labels of the clothes, no liability is accepted) and store them in airtight sealed bags. Items that cannot be laundered should be frozen overnight at -30°C.
Discarding Infested Items
- Infested items in poor condition (e.g., torn mattresses or heavily infested furniture) should be discarded responsibly. Seal items in plastic before disposal to prevent spreading bed bugs during transportation.
Heating
- Maintain a warm environment by keeping the heating on, particularly in cold weather, as this helps improve the efficacy of the treatment.
Post treatment Instructions
Room Access and Cleaning
- Do not enter treated rooms until all insecticides have dried. Drying times vary based on temperature and humidity.
- Ventilate the rooms thoroughly before occupying them.
- HSE prohibits re-entering the treated areas for at least four hours.
- Insecticide labels suggest avoid treated areas while wet.
Sleeping in Treated Areas
- Continue to sleep in treated rooms to encourage bed bugs to leave their hiding spots and come into contact with treated surfaces.
Avoid Cleaning
- Do not vacuum or wash treated surfaces, carpets, or floors for at least two weeks following treatment. This ensures the insecticides remain effective.
- Cleaning treated areas should only be done after three weeks to two months, depending on infestation severity.
Humidity Control
- Reduce humidity levels by keeping windows open or using a dehumidifier. Maintain indoor temperatures at 22°C or higher for optimal results.
Managing Expectations
- It is normal to see some bed bugs for up to two weeks post-treatment, as they gradually succumb to the insecticide.
- If live bed bugs persist after this period, a follow-up treatment may be required.
Additional Considerations
- 3. During Treatment
- Dispose of discarded items responsibly to prevent spreading the infestation.
- Do not introduce new furniture to treated areas until the infestation is fully eradicated.
